Pat Doughety

Pat is the "in house" quilt teacher at The Sewing Room.  She began quilting 4 years ago and says "it's an addiction".  In honor of March being National Quilt Month, we wanted to "spotlight" her skills!

Her first project was a quilt made from scraps left from clothing she had sewn for grandchildren.  She enrolled in a jellyroll class and "had so much fun I haven't stopped since"!  What a great way to utilize those scraps we all have from our many projects!

Piecing, a term used to define the sewing of all the pieces of fabric that have been cut (or pre-cut and purchased), is her favorite part of the quilting process.  Imagine a puzzle with all the pieces fitting together just so to create a beautiful pattern!  The uniqueness of "piecing" is as unique as each individual-there are many ways to put the various pieces and colors together to form a multitude of patterns and color variations.

As a sewist, whether it is quilting or creating children's garments, Pat would prefer to "sew all day long"!  Many quilters, those creating heirloom clothing or smocking can relate to her sewing preferences...

She was inspired by a quilt show she attended and produced a quilt pattern for "Mini Monsters".  "Garden Ladies" and "Team Spirit" are two other patterns she wrote and are available at The Sewing Room.

Pat teaches classes monthly and covers the many skills needed to complete a quilt.  Each student's quilt becomes as unique as the students themselves as she monitors all the processes required for each project. Follow the link to our "classes" tab to see when her next class is available!
